Two recent virus's are the XP Police Virus and Anti-virus XP 2008, that look every bit legitimate, however are in themselves the problem, and may suggest blocking a program or stating you have viruses & spyware, and to purchase their product to fix the problem created by them in the first place.

We suggest you don't click any buttons and have your computer looked at by a competent technician.

The first virus alert, is a virus showing up fairly regularly in the guise of a toolbar called MyWebs.

It seems legitimate, however your computer will start getting error messages at start up, along the lines of 'Error loading mwsbar.dll', as well as a lot of pop ups saying 'virus alert' or 'your computer is infected', then trying to get you to click on a dubious link.

If you have a good anti-virus/firewall program, it may have block it, however if you are getting the above messages it's probably too late, and you should get your computer checked out.
